Registration open for girls’ Sept. 28 math-science event at MTSU

Registration is underway for the 23rd annual Expanding Your Horizons in Math and Science Conference at MTSU, which will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, on the Middle Tennessee State University campus.

Middle school and high school girls — rising fifth- through 12th-graders — are welcome to attend. The nonrefundable registration fee is $20. To register and for more details, visit www.mtsu.edu/eyh.

Expanding Your Horizons, or EYH, helps girls and young women investigate science and mathematics careers, talk with women in math and science, attend science and math workshops with their peers, participate in hands-on activities and meet other girls interested in the STEM disciplines of math, science, engineering and technology.

Dr. Judith Iriarte-Gross

Cheryl Holdaway, a product development chemist for Newell Brand’s writing division, has accepted an invitation to be the EYH 2019 keynote speaker. One of the products she works with is Sharpie pens.

The EYH director is Dr. Judith Iriarte-Gross, a professor in the Department of Chemistry and director of the MTSU Women in STEM, or  WISTEM, Center who has received national recognition for her advocacy in encouraging girls and women in STEM fields.
